About Us

Since 2016, our local guides have been bringing visitors closer to Castine’s scenic views and historical sites with a dose of small town Maine hospitality.

Our History

Castine Touring Company is the brainchild of three local women who got together to explore ways to enhance the experience for visitors to Castine, Maine. Set on a hillside, much of Castine can be missed by visitors arriving by boat or on foot. It is through the efforts of these dedicated locals that the funds were collected to purchase a fully licensed and insured “low speed vehicle” (6 passenger electric golf cart), lovingly nicknamed “Scarlett” for her bright red paint.

First settled by Europeans in the 1600s, our historic little Midcoast town on the shores of Penobscot Bay is “The place where history never grows old.” Located where the Bagaduce River meets Penobscot Bay, Castine was a popular spot for summer fishing and harvesting among native tribes and later trade with French trappers. A direct line from England by sailboat, Castine is the site of Revolutionary War era forts. Our deep water harbor is unique on the east coast and remains one of the most sought-after sailing venues in the world, especially when in need of a safe harbor.

Our dedicated drivers are all trained volunteers, who happily share their time and knowledge of the area, so that visitors may gain the most from their stay here. For those tired of fighting the crowds in Acadia, Camden and Bar Harbor, the Blue Hill Peninsula and Castine provide a true Coastal Maine experience at a slower pace. Come see why Castine’s motto is “Under the Elms and by the Sea.”

In 2023 additional funds were raised to add to our fleet. Stay tuned for updates on Instagram, Facebook and on our blog!
